Specialized Care for Premature and Critically Ill Infants
The Margaret M. and George A. Stephen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Comer Children's Hospital is among the largest in the Midwest.
Our NICU features 71 beds including a transitional care unit located close to our postpartum unit.
Because you and your family never want to be far from your baby, we have added these amenities to the area surrounding the NICU:
- Visitor's waiting room
- Ronald McDonald House
- Parent sleep rooms
- Child Life family and sibling support resources
- Breast- or chest-milk pumping rooms
Our simulation center conducts a variety of continuing education opportunities through hands on training for Comer staff and community partners.
We provide simulation opportunities for high acuity/low frequency clinical situations such as cardiac emergencies, respiratory emergencies, neonatal transport and crisis resource management for our multidisciplinary teams.
The center has unique resources such as a dedicated ambulance used for transport simulations and tetherless high fidelity mannequins.
Our Level 2 nursery provides specialized newborn care with extended neonatal capabilities. Our NICU staff is extensively trained to care for babies born at 30 weeks and older.
At the Ingalls Special Care Nursery, we offer advanced equipment, technology and health services for critically ill infants.
