Cecilia Ong, MD, is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of abdominal cancers, with a focus on:
- Liver cancer, including metastatic cancers that have spread to the liver
- Bile duct cancer
- Pancreas cancer
- Stomach cancer
- Small bowel cancer
- Appendix cancer
- Neuroendocrine cancer
- Peritoneal surface cancers
- Sarcoma
Being fellowship trained in complex cancer surgery, Dr. Ong is an expert in performing both traditional and minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as Whipple and distal pancreatectomies, gastrectomy, and liver resection and ablation. She is also invested in managing cancers that have originated in or spread to the lining of the abdomen, including the use of advanced therapies such as cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Her compassionate and patient-centered approach to care ensures that she understands her patients' individual diagnosis, concerns and preferences so that together they can develop a customized treatment plan. Dr. Ong prioritizes open communication so her patients are well informed about their procedure option(s) and expected outcomes.
As part of her commitment to delivering exceptional care, Dr. Ong is actively engaged in research to improve care for gastrointestinal cancer patients. Her research aims to identify molecular and cellular biomarkers that can improve our ability to tailor treatments to disease. She also has an interest in global surgical oncology. Her work has been published is highly respected, peer-reviewed journals, such as Annals of Surgery, Journal of Surgical Oncology, Cancer, Annals of Surgical Oncology and more.
