My name is Dr. Mohamad Bydon, Chair of Neurological Surgery at the University of Chicago. The University of Chicago is one of the great universities in the United States in the world. There's over 100 Nobel Prize winners, and they span all the fields and specialties of medicine. The University of Chicago is one of the great hospitals. It's about care and discovery. And in addition to that, the Department of Neurologic Surgery has exceptional faculty, one of the highest NIH funding ratios in the entire nation, great vascular programs, functional and stereotactic, great programs in trauma, oncology, spine, pediatrics, really running the gamut of neurological surgery and of medicine in general. There aren't very many universities of this stature, and in a great city like Chicago, the ability to build an exceptional team, an exceptional national world class team that goes beyond what we've done so far and to take us into the future. I graduated from Dartmouth College. I attended Yale University School of Medicine. I did my fellowship and training at Johns Hopkins and went to Mayo Clinic. And I spent a number of years there and became a vice chair and executive medical director, had a large laboratory called the Neuroinformatics Laboratory, and had a significant leadership role in international and development, in analytics and informatics, and in a variety of different surgical outcomes and patient care pathways. So robotics is an area that has dramatically changed neurosurgery. I started a robotic program, which was one of the first in the nation, and that began in 2016. Today, it's light years beyond the robotic technology, where it was when we began. We have the latest robotic advancements here at the University of Chicago. That program is set to grow dramatically. Additionally, in neurosurgery, brain machine interface or computer machine interface, these are things that you may read about here, about various companies around the country, various startups. University of Chicago is really the academic home of a lot of that work. We have one of the great brain machine interface teams anywhere, right here at the University of Chicago. My wife and I have two children. We do spend a lot of our time with charities and specifically focused around spinal cord injury, which is a disease that's very important to me, both professionally and personally. We're going to continue to deliver the world-class care that we deliver to patients from Chicago, from Chicagoland area, from all over the world. And in addition, we're going to continue to advance our understanding of neurological diseases and not just in a direct treatment way in which case we might impact one small disease. There's a lot of value to that, but at the same time, in a mechanistic way, where we understand the underlying pathologies and potentially have an impact that's much broader. And so the department will continue to grow. We'll work with neuroscience and our colleagues at University of Chicago Medicine to participate in the growth of the medical center, and also, at the same time, to expand the boundaries of our knowledge of neurological surgery and the diseases that impact patients.
