Hello. My name is Dr. Sana Salih. I'm a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility here at UChicago Medicine. I have been an infertility specialist for over 20 years. I see patients with infertility who are trying to get pregnant or build a family. I also see patients with recurrent pregnancy loss who are having problems maintaining pregnancy.
UChicago Medicine has a strong collaborative environment and an amazing infrastructure. My patients have access to genetic counselor, nutritional support, and financial counselor. I collaborate with urology. And we can see the whole spectrum of male infertility.
I also work with an outstanding physicians across all subspecialties who can support your care. I know fertility treatment takes multiple visits. But you don't have to go far for your fertility care.
You can see me via video visit from the comfort of your home. No matter what UChicago clinic you go to, I can always access your labs and guide your care.
For some people, having their own children is the most amazing gift I can help them with. I believe everyone who wants to build and support a family should be able to do so. I also understand that fertility and family building are very personal matters. And I respect my patient's choice.
My philosophy of clinical care is to educate my patient through a shared decision-making process. I empower my patients with knowledge and resources to help them arrive to an informed and intelligent decision for their care. In addition to being a clinician, I am also certified as a high complexity laboratory director.
What this means is that I have an advanced understanding of what happens to the sperm, the egg, and the embryos in the laboratory. And this helps me guide your care towards a better success rate.
I want my patients to know that I'm very honored and privileged to be part of their fertility journey. Sana Salih, MD, MS, HCLD, is double board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and she is credentialed as a high-complexity laboratory director. Dr. Salih provides compassionate and comprehensive care to patients who dream of building a family but are struggling with infertility issues or recurrent pregnancy loss. Her practice is rooted in a patient-centric approach to care where Dr. Salih works with each patient/couple individually to customize a treatment plan for each woman’s or family’s unique reproductive goals. Her expertise in infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss promotes comprehensive evaluation and management, including advanced reproductive technology such as in-vitro fertilization, fertility preservation and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
Dr. Salih treats a wide range of conditions that can be associated with infertility, including endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), blockage of fallopian tubes and diminished ovarian reserve. As an expert in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, Dr. Salih offers hysteroscopy and laparoscopy surgery, when indicated, for uterine fibroids and uterine anomalies, such as uterine septum and uterine adhesions.
Dr. Salih participates in the University of Chicago Fertility Preservation Program, which provides oocyte, sperm, embryo and testicular tissue cryopreservation for patients receiving gonadotoxic chemotherapy for cancer and non-cancer indications, those in military service, and patients at risk for a genetic disease may benefit from this program.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Salih is committed to ongoing research, investigating new and innovative therapies that can improve fertility and fertility preservation for her patients. She is a collaborator in a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded project to study the genetic basis for recurrent miscarriage. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Reproductive Sciences, Fertility and Sterility and more.
