Becoming a Patient

We understand the stress associated with illness, particularly when treatment is received outside of one’s home country. Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible so you can focus on your treatment and recovery. Once we receive your appointment request, our care coordinator will be assigned and available to you 24/7, as a single point of contact to meet and address your needs before travel, during your treatment at UChicago medicine, and even after discharge.

Step 1: Request your appointment.

A dedicated care coordinator will assist you throughout the registration process.

Step 2: Provide medical records in English.

Include:

• Current diagnosis
• Any films you may have (X-ray, MRI, CT scan, ultrasound)
• Biopsy results

Step 3: Receive your physician information and treatment plan.

After receiving your medical records, we will triage your case through our international medical director to be matched with our leading physicians. As soon as your case is accepted by our doctors, we will send you the treatment plan to address your concern.

Step 4: Obtain financial clearance.

International financial coordinators will assist with preparing cost estimates for your given treatment plan. This team will also be able to accept appointment pre-payment, answer any billing questions, and verify insurance or embassy coverage. Final bills will be conveniently delivered within 30 days of your discharge visit. 

Step 5: Receive appointment confirmation and make travel arrangements.

Finally, we will send welcome information that includes the name of your physician and the time, date and location of your appointment. If necessary, visa documents will be provided upon financial clearance. Then our guest services coordinator will be in contact to assist with any transportation and/or accommodation needs for your upcoming visit.
