About UChicago Medicine Physicians
The foundation of University of Chicago Medicine is a vibrant, growing organization of physicians who provide care for patients on the academic health system’s main campus in Hyde Park and in community-based care centers throughout the Chicago region.
UChicago Medicine Physicians is an integrated organization that includes more than 1,200 physician, both faculty and community-based doctors, committed to advancing the UChicago Medicine's tripartite mission of clinical care, research and teaching.
I think the physicians here are outstanding. I think the staff is incredibly supportive. And we're all directed towards one mission, and that's to provide unparalleled, unsurpassed care for all of our patients.
In addition to providing care, physician faculty members teach the next generation of doctors at the Pritzker School of Medicine and conduct research within the University of Chicago’s Biological Sciences Division. Collectively, their research is focused on searching for the next discovery, breakthrough and innovative therapy that will continue to advance the forefront of medicine.
Physician faculty members see patients in Hyde Park, as well as in outpatient centers located in areas that include downtown Chicago, South Loop, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Flossmoor, Calumet City, Harvey and northwest Indiana.
The UChicago Medicine Physicians organization also includes more than 60 employed community-based doctors. Our community-based doctors, many of whom offer primary care services, collaborate with faculty physicians on the best course of treatment for patients at UChicago Medicine’s Hyde Park campus, UChicago Medicine at Ingalls - Harvey and in our south suburban outpatient centers.
In January 2018, UChicago Medicine achieved designation as a clinically integrated network that includes an additional 220 community-based physicians who are in private practice and are aligned with the academic health system.
The goal of the more than 1,200 physicians in UChicago Medicine’s clinically integrated network is to coordinate patient care across integrated specialties; from cancer care and orthopaedics to heart care and neuroscience. This approach ensures each patient receives the right treatment at the right time, and in the most appropriate clinical location.
In some cases, treatment can be provided at an outpatient center in Orland Park or Flossmoor, for example. Other times, such as when treating cancer and other complex medical conditions, the patient may be required to visit UChicago Medicine’s state-of-the-art medical center in Hyde Park for the most advanced care available.
Since UChicago Medicine’s merger with Ingalls Memorial health system in October 2016, the academic health system has created integrated service lines in cancer, orthopaedics, heart care, digestive diseases, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, liver care, eye care, pediatrics, pulmonology and urology.
As a result of the merger with Ingalls and expanding relationships with community-based physicians, patients can now access the forefront of advanced medical care in convenient, close-to-home locations across the Chicago region and suburbs.
